SHEN TONG, MANAGING PARTNER
Shen Tong is a serial entrepreneur, impact investor with 30+ food innovation investments and other media, and high tech investments. He is founder & MP of Food Future. One of Newsweek’s People of the Year in 1989, Shen Tong was an organizer of the democracy movement in 1989 that occupied Tiananmen Square while he was at Beijing University. After his exile to the US, he finished his undergraduate degree at Brandeis University, and went on to study in PhD programs at Boston University and Harvard University. Mr. Shen became an entrepreneur in the 1990s, founding or co-founding, B&B Media, and VFinity among other ventures in the past two decades, serving on boards and advisory boards including Food Tank, Change Food, Poets & Writers. He founded FOOD-X in 2014; also serves as venture partner of SOSV - the accelerator VC, a global multi-stage venture capital fund. Gigi lee chang, Managing Director
Gigi Lee Chang is passionate about food and children. She is an advisor in the food, health, wellness and sustainability space to both early stage companies as well as non-profits. Gigi is the Founder of Plum Organics and was most recently the CEO of the children's national non-profit Healthy Child Healthy World.
Gigi is also an expert on socially conscious/sustainable business practices and entrepreneurship and was an advisor to B Lab. Prior to founding Plum Organics, Gigi was the Director of Strategic Planning & Integrated Marketing at Euro RSCG/Havas as part of the global brand team for Intel.
Gigi serves on the Friends Board of Good+ Foundation as well as the Advisory Boards for Arabella Advisors, Good Food Ventures and the Force For Good Accelerator Fund. She lives in New York City with her husband and 12-year old son.
JENNY OSMAN, PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Jenny Osman's love of food started with watching Two Fat Ladies as a little girl. The catalyst that transformed her love of food into a career choice to be part of the food movement was her experience living and teaching English abroad in Senegal. Witnessing the levels of hunger among her students opened Jenny's eyes to the pitfalls of the American food system at home.
Jenny has worked in food in positions ranging from line cook, to development of hunger-fighting initiatives to her current role as program coordinator with FoodFutureCo.
She is excited to work with people who are passionate about improving the world we live in through our food system.
EVAN FRANCA, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Evan is a Brooklyn born entrepreneur and restauranteur who has always had a passion for quality food and hospitality. With over 15 years of restaurant experience he started his first food business (a sausage cart) as a student at SUNY Binghamton with $800. After it's success he went on to open his own cafe and bar, Café Oasis which served a wide range of local and seasonal beers and snacks. Eventually, his hometown pulled him back in and he opened Brooklyn Crepe & Juice, now with a second location in park slope, where he serves fresh juices, smoothies, crepes, and salads. He is also an owner at Wangs an acclaimed asian inspired soul food restaurant and Prawn Shop his newest venture which focuses on responsibly and ethically sourced seafood and has a no tipping policy to ensure fair wages for all employees. Evan has recently begun developing a seafood sausage called Seadogs which utilizes bycatch and less desirable local fish to make an impact on food waste and get people to eat healthier and more sustainably. He's very excited to be a part of the Food Future team and make a positive impact on our food system.
Richard Wallace, Analyst
Rich Wallace is a purveyor of exciting and disruptive CPG innovations. He found his love for CPG while working as an analyst at boutique consulting firm, Beverage Marketing Corporation, before joining Vita Coco Coconut Water in 2012. At Vita Coco, Rich focused on distribution and pricing strategies, innovation and category growth with national retail partners. Most recently, he was the 5th US hire at Behalf, a fintech startup revolutionizing B2B payments. Irish-born with a joint-degree from Dublin City and Northeastern, Rich is thrilled to be part of the FoodFutureCo team.
Gina kim, social media + Community
Gina joins as a volunteer for the FoodFutureCo team with great enthusiasm to learn more about and execute social media strategies to help FoodFutureCo grow and flourish with the community it creates. She is passionate about the food system, especially through the lens of racial and social equality.
In addition, Gina is a full-time Membership and Locals Manager of Chefs Collaborative, a national non-profit network of chefs across the country working to build a better food system.
She is based in Brooklyn, NY and when not at work, you can catch her rollerblading, running, and eating at all the fried chicken joints.
Mary Allen, Editor
Mary Allen is a native Nashvillian and a sweet potato enthusiast. Prior to joining the FoodFutureCo team, Mary worked at Penguin Random House, helping bring plant-based cookbooks and books on nutritional healing to the translation market. Her personal experience with nutritional healing awakened her to the dangers and injustices entrenched in our food supply chain.
In 2015, she founded Chroma Kitchen, an ethical food initiative which showcases chefs, entrepreneurs, and activists working to create a more sustainable and equitable food system. She is also a plant-based marathoner, and when she isn't editing FoodFutureCo's blog, she is likely running across the Williamsburg bridge or eating mango.
Janet Reynolds, FoodFutureCo Fellow
While working with food and clean energy social entrepreneurs in Asia, Janet discovered her passion for helping to build sustainable businesses that contribute to a more equitable world. She is particularly passionate about health and wellness, sustainable and resilient food systems, and circular economy solutions. Her experience in the food system includes working with local restauranteurs in Durham, improving supply chain sustainability for Coca-Cola and Mondelēz International, and urban farming in NYC.
In 2016, she co-founded Waste for Good, a social enterprise piloting an initiative to convert local food waste into renewable energy. Janet is a graduate of Wellesley College and Duke, where she earned both her MBA and Masters in Environmental Management. She is excited to work alongside the passionate community at FoodFutureCo to build a better food system for all.
Charles Ferguson, program associate
A thoughtful consumer since first reading Michael Pollan as a kid, Charles works full-time at Andela, bakes sourdough as often as he can, and loves kimchi. He couldn't be more excited to be a small part of the innovations underway at FFC.
After studying English at the College of Charleston, Charles taught ESL as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Zambia. These years solidified his interest in food-security, nutrition, and accessibility to clean water. He has since moved to NYC, not far from the beach he grew up on, and keeps busy with a couple tech-centric jobs after work.
